Doctors & Staff

Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make May Vision Center the leading provider of vision care products and services in Waunakee.


Dr. David K. May

Dr. May opened May Vision Center in 2006 after noting that Waunakee and the surrounding area lacked eye care. Dr. May graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992 with a BS in Zoology followed by his doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1996. He received his diagnostic and therapeutic pharmacological license that same year.

Dr. May is a member of the American Optometric Association, Wisconsin Optometric Association, Madison Area Optometric Associations, Waunakee Rotary and Waunakee Lions Club. He also participates in Vision USA, InfantSEE program, and is on the MATC Optometric Advisory Board. Dr. May was voted the Wisconsin Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the Year in 2004, Wisconsin Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the Year in 2012 and Waunakee Business Person of the Year in 2011. He is past president of the Madison Area Optometric Association and served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Optometric Association. In his free time, Dr. May enjoys hunting, golfing, and traveling with his family. Dr. May’s family includes his wife, Candie, and their two children, Evan and Madelyn.


Dr. Sara M. Winkler

Dr. Winkler joined May Vision Center July 2018 after several years of practicing in the Madison and Janesville areas.  She graduated from UW-Green Bay in 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Human Biology.  She then went on to earn a doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, graduating with honors in 2012.  Dr. Winkler is a TPA certified optometrist and a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and Waunakee Lions Club.  She participates in Vision USA, the InfantSEE program and is certified to fit Orthokeratology and scleral contact lenses.  In her spare time she enjoys all outdoor activities, traveling, reading, and playing competitive volleyball.  Dr. Winkler and her husband Isaac with their two daughters Eva and Nora.


Dr. Nikki Bennett Fasbender

Dr. Nikki Bennett Fasbender is a clinically bilingual therapeutic optometrist. She grew up nearby in the bluffs of Merrimac, WI.  She graduated from Portage High School in 2004.  She went on to attain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison while working for May Vision Center-Waunakee. May Vision Center is where Dr. Fasbender developed her passion for ocular health and vision sciences. While at UW- Madison, Dr. Fasbender was an active member of the Wisconsin Paraoptometric Association and was awarded Paraoptometric of the year in 2010 for the state of Wisconsin.  Dr. Fasbender pursued her Doctorate of Optometry at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry in beautiful Bayamon, PR. During her clinical rotations she earned an award for her clinical skills from Eye and Vision in Richardson, TX.  After graduation, Dr. Fasbender moved to Houston where she practiced at the prestigious Mann Eye Institute for 7 years focusing on surgical co-management and ocular disease/pathology. In July of 2021, Dr. Fasbender returned home to Wisconsin to be the primary optometrist at May Vision Center- Reedsburg. She is a member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association, The American Optometric Association and is a Reedsburg Lion’s Club member.

Outside of work Dr. Fasbender enjoys being outdoors, crafting, riding horses, cooking, reading and spending time with her husband Matt and their son, Vaughn.


Lori Kindschy, CPOT

Lori is a Certified Paraoptometric Technician and has been in the optical industry for 26+ years. She is currently the office manager for May Vision Center. She started with Dr. May when he opened up the practice in 2006. She enjoys meeting people and helping them with their eye care needs. Although her primary goal is to help people look good and feel good about themselves in glasses, she also does contact lens training, vision testing, glasses repair and adjustments, insurance billing and reconciliation, and accounting. She is a Member of the American Optometric Association Paraoptometric section and served as Chair on the Paraoptometric Resource center board. She is also a member of the Wisconsin Paraoptometric Association and served on the Board of Directors for 10 years. She was awarded the Wisconsin Paraoptometric of the Year award in 2003. She has a passion for this industry and enjoys learning more so she can pass the information and technology on to our patients. When she is not at work or going to conferences, she enjoys spending time with her husband, and their family, including 24 grandchildren. She likes to camp, fish, cook, sew and make crafts.


Jean Zimmerman, CPOA

Jean is a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant and has been in the eye field for 20+ years. She will assist you in testing before you see Dr. May. She is also happy to assist in selecting and adjusting your glasses, helping you get your appointments scheduled and making your experience at May Vision Center an unforgettable one.

She lived in Waunakee as a child and is so excited to be back working in the area and at May Vision Center. She loves working with people, helping them with their vision and giving them that wow when they get their new glasses.

Jean is married to an amazing guy from Portage, has three beautiful children and 6 amazing grandchildren. In her free time, she loves being a grandma.


Modesta Montes, CPOT

Modesta earned her Optometric Technician certification in 2004.  With her many years of optical experience she enjoys interacting with patients and helping them pick out the best eye wear.  Her goal is to always provide the best service possible to achieve patients trust and satisfaction.  She is Bilingual in English and Spanish.

In her spare time, she likes spending time with her family and enjoys being part of a Mexican Folkloric dance group along with her 2 daughters.


Becki Woolsey

Becki has been part of the May Vision Center Team at our front desk since May of 2017. She has many years of experience in customer service and as a caregiver in memory care. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to concerts, gardening, and helping others. Becki looks forward to making your experience at May Vision Center a great one and is happy to help you!

 


Jessica Lamb

Jessica joined the May Vision Center team in April of 2018. She graduated from Lakeshore Technical College in 1999 with a degree as Ophthalmic Assistant and has been working in optical ever since. She loves helping patients with all of their optical needs. Jessica is a member of Portage’s Historical Preservation Committee. She enjoys hiking, fishing, camping, dancing, and spending time with her friends and family.

 


Bethany Hilderbrand

Bethany joined the May Vision Reedsburg team in September, 2019. She had previously worked at this location for Dr. Joe Prell (now retired) since October, 2000. She is an ABO certified optician and serves patients by performing diagnostic tests, including internal optical scanning, retinal mapping, and visual field testing. She also assists in fitting patients with glasses as well as contact lenses. In her free time, she stays busy with community involvement, youth work, and enjoys travel.


Cindy Zelner

Cindy joined the May Vision Center team in Reedsburg in September 2019. She has worked in optometry since 2010, formerly working for Dr. Joe Prell, who is now retired. She has also previously worked in the hospitality field. She manages all front desk operations, including triage and appointment scheduling, insurance claims and billing, as well as helping patients select the perfect pair of glasses. She enjoys spending her free time with her daughter and their horses on the family farm and helping with gymnastics classes.

 


Christine Domres

Chris has been a contributing member in the optical field for over 25 years. She has held positions in both private practice and retail offices. She specializes in all phases of the optical process from frame and lens selection to dispensing and education of products and services. She loves helping all patients with their eye care needs. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her grandson and large family, reading, crafting, home improvement projects, and being outdoors.

 

 


Lonnie Bogatay

Lonnie has been part of the May Vision Team for almost six years now, having returned from a brief hiatus in 2019, to once again rejoin her May Vision Family. Lonnie has four degrees, (three of which are in the medical field from Madison College) and is a CPO (Certified Paraoptometric). As the Billing Specialist, Lonnie oversees and assists with Insurance Invoicing as well as Research and Resolution of all medical billing for both the Reedsburg and Waunakee Practice. In her free time, Lonnie is a dedicated mother of two grown children (Jacob and Rachel), a devoted wife of her husband Jonathan of 32 years, and a dog-grandma to her daughter’s Samoyed, Phoebe. In her free time, she enjoys watching classic television episodes, traveling with her family outside of the United States, kayaking and biking.
